ZombieLand

in Movies by Michael on October 7th, 2009

This follows the story of Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) teenager travelling around zombie plagued America with his shotgun and his 30+ rules to keep him company, until he meets Tallahassee a crazy and brutal character with a weakness for Twinkies portaid brilliantly by Woody Harrelson.

As the story goes on and a few more faces join the party and things start to get interesting with the introduction of Whitichta (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) two young con-artists content on making there way to Pacific Play Land the only place zombies have yet to infect, offcourse this attracts the attention of Columbus and Tallahassee and off they set.

This movie has most things you could look for in a zombie flick. Zombies! (Of course) Hot girls, lots of guns and a cast that will keep you laughing hard enough to make you fall of your seat and if that’s still not enough there is a surprising cameo and moments such as ‘best zombie kill of the week’ to look forward too.

Zombieland has a feel a lot like Wanted, not as in poorly made and weak story but artistic direction. I was surprised to find out it was not directed by the same man but instead by Ruben Fleischer a new comer to the big screen and after seeing this I have to say I am really excited to see what he comes out with next.

I give Zombieland 3 out of 5 starts and leave you with these wise words from Tallahassee.

“Its time to nut up or shut up”

Michael.

Valkyrie

in Movies by Matt on October 7th, 2009

Tom Cruise is a secret agent, vampire nazi.  Known very well for his role as Ethan Hunt in mission impossible and his portrayal of the vampire Lestat in “interview with a vampire” Tom Cruises next big hit Valkyrie is another amazing performance in his career.  Forget the guys social life, he can act and that’s what he is truly commended for.  Although Tom isn’t the only star in this show, anyone familiar with the film conspiracy (one in which the holocaust was planned and made into a forward motion) will be pleased to see some familiar faces; Kevin Mc’Nally who played the naive Martin Luther at the nazi table of rounds plays the snake headed Dr. Carl Goerdeler working to defeat Hitler from below and Ian Mc’Neice who portrayed Dr. Gerhard Klopfer another unsavory Nazi makes his own appearance with more.  Also to my complete surprise Eddy Izzard, be-known to me as a cross dressing impersonalist impersonated a fine Nazi suit.  My hat also goes off to Kenneth Branagh and Bill Nighy, so for casting I give this film a 10.

For story-line purposes as it is allegedly based on documented history, all the events leading up to operation valkyrie were pure speculation of charcter profiling to make the movie look good and shinny.  How-ever can you blame then, the story itself is supposed to be heart pounding edge of your seat cinema which it is if you’re into this kind of movie but if you’re not you’ll be legs twitching, falling out of your seat bored…bored, bored, bored.  However as a WW2 enthusiast I was glued to the film.

Needless to say I was the last person to leave the cinema.  I give it a 7 for story as it was thrilling but only to some and not for all.

Produced very surprisingly by “bad hat harry” creators of other features starring bold and enigmatic heroes such as Superman and M.D. House, yeah that’s right, in with a German company who’s name slips my mind whoever together their vision of nazi Germany is un-believably believable.

Concrete bunkers, big entrances, stone halls and a courtyard sprouting with nazi flags like tall anti-Semitic woods blooming majestically and everyone flashing and bearing their medals.  Never having been to Nazi Germany and never going to be I can only take their word for it.  This permits another high mark of 9 as it’s damn spectacular but leaves me wanting…don’t worry I’m sure there will be a sequel in about 2 years, (sadly).

But that does it for this film, go on and see it you know you want to or if you weren’t sure maybe you shouldn’t your opinion is null and void to me so please yourself.
